Republicans hold a majority in both the House of Representatives and Congress. Yet, Planned Parentood has been funded through every spending bill passed since Republicans gained control and the wall has yet to be funded. Democrats have also been able to bully the Kavanaugh situation. Continuously pushing back the confirmation vote and making absurd demands regardless of the fact Dr. Christine Blasey Ford’s story has yet to be substantiated. However, her allegations have been contradicted by everyone she claims was present when Kavanaugh supposedly assaulted her. So, why do Republicans continue to give ground?
Some folks are saying that Senator Chuck Grassley (IA) is just giving Democrats enough rope to hang themselves. He is the Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, which presides over the Kavanaugh hearings and confirmation. He has postponed the confirmation vote in order to give more time for Ford to consider whether or not she will speak at the hearing. He has done this despite the severe lack of evidence that Brett Kavanaugh actually did what Ford alleges. Since Ford’s story has been riddled with holes, another accuser has now stepped forth. Claiming that Kavanaugh abused her at a frat party in college. She claims she was drunk, she didn’t actually see it was Kavanaugh but heard his name said, and she doesn’t remember any specifics in terms of location or time. It appears that Grassley giving Ford, and subsequently Democrats, more time has only resulted in more rabbit holes. Meaning more time will be wasted before the midterm elections in November, in which Democrats believe they will win back control of the House and Senate.
Another prevalent theory is that Republicans in the Senate simply lack the fortitude to ignore what the liberal main stream media says about them. They try to be fair in an effort to look good in the public eye, yet, no matter what they do they are still lambasted as vile human beings by the liberal media. They don’t defund Planned Parenthood because they don’t want the media to portray them as anti-woman, they don’t fund the wall because they don’t want the media to portray them as racists, and they didn’t go ahead with the Kavanaugh confirmation because they didn’t want the media to portray them as chauvinist pigs. However, they are already called anti-woman, racist, and sexist by Democrats and the main stream media. Many think that in light of this, Republicans should simply do what they want regardless of what Democrats and the media (virtually synonymous terms) have to say about it.
I tend to lean more towards believing that Republicans in the Senate are afraid for their reputations, and thusly unwilling to fight tooth and nail for what they believe in. I could be wrong though, I am no political expert after all. Perhaps this is just a long-game being played well by the Republicans. What are your thoughts on this topic?
