    Productivity in Unexpected Places

This past weekend I had planned to get some work done on both of our family vehicles. I was going to check the brakes on my van, replace the throttle position sensor, and further investigate a rattling sound around the serpentine belt. I also wanted to replace the inner fender liner on my wife’s car. Suffice it to say, none of what I planned, actually went to plan. I started my weekend by stopping by my parent’s house so that my dad could look at the inner fender liner of my wife’s car and offer his opinions. As soon as I got there my mom invited me to have breakfast…

    Our Favorite Christmas Treats

It seems that everyone who celebrates Christmas has a food item that they look forward to having each year. It might be a sweet treat, entree, or even a beverage. No matter what it is though, it leaves an impression on us that we just can’t forget! In this post my family shares their favorite Christmas treats and why they like them so much. My first son’s favorite Christmas treat is mashed potatoes. “I love the soft and mushy texture of mashed potatoes. I also like the garlic flavor of mashed potatoes that we would have every year. Finally, I always like to take a small slice of butter and…

    Pets are Fun!

All across the world there are people who love animals. Whether it is a cat, dog, lizard, snake, spider, fox, raccoon, bear, etc., there is a person out there willing to love it. I like to think this is do to the compassionate side God gave humans. The desire to take care of a creature not as capable as yourself and develop a bond with it is an honorable aspiration. However, certain animals do make better pets than others. This fact is reflected in the number of people that own a specific type of pet. The two most popular pets seem to be cats and dogs, although goldfish are certainly…

    Dodge Caravan Window Motor Replacement

This past Saturday I was busy most of the day with a rather straight forward vehicle repair. The driver side power window motor on my 2003 Dodge Grand Caravan has been broken for over a year now. I finally got around to replacing it with a new one. I watched a few instructional videos on YouTube, one of which was by 1aauto.com. It seemed like a project I could handle so I made sure I had all of the necessary tools and equipment. I also made sure I started the project earlier in the day, as previous experience has taught me that things often don’t go quite as smoothly as…

Why We Don’t Do Santa Claus

Parents all around the United states, and in other parts of the world, perpetuate the idea that Santa Claus brings gifts each Christmas for their children. They explain to their children how Santa comes down the chimney and tiptoes around the Christmas tree placing presents. Also, gifts are only for the good boys and girls, the bad ones get a simple lump of coal in their stocking. Most parents have their children believing that Santa Claus is real until they are around 6-8 years old. However, my wife and I have never misled our children into believing in Santa Claus, and our reasons are very simple. One of our most…

    Learning from Car Repairs

Over the last week and change, I have been undergoing the adventure of repairing my wife’s car. It was difficult at times, not just because I didn’t completely know what I was doing, but also because I was impatient and I had the wrong outlook when it came to car maintenance. These repairs began my learning experience in regards to taking care of what I am blessed with and provided a firm reminder as to why it is important to perform as many of my own repairs around my home and vehicles as I reasonably can. I took my wife’s car in for an oil change, but as it turned…

    Shrinking My Workshop

A couple of years back I took over half of our basement with my workshop. I took out the bathroom that was down there, took down ceiling panels to allow for more height, and removed some piping that had gone to the toilet. This resulted in me having about an 18’x12′ space, but shaped slightly like a “T”, with one portion of the shop being more narrow than the rest. The shop served me well and I enjoyed having as much space as I did. However, I have since realized that having a second bathroom in the house would be much more convenient than a larger shop space. I will…

    Top 5 Quarterbacks of All-Time

The debate over which quarterbacks belong among the top five all-time best is a long and heated one. The fact we have had so many great ones to choose from hasn’t made the issue any easier to resolve. A lack of statistics keeping from the earlier days of football can also aggravate the discussion and make things more cloudy. Then there is the question of which criteria quarterbacks should be judged on, passing yards, touchdowns, interceptions, wins, SuperBowl victories, playoff appearances, Pro-Bowl games, passer rating, etc. Well, for the purposes of this list I have chosen to judge based on the overall affect a quarterback has had on his team,…

    What Made Larry Bird Legendary?

Even though his beginnings were quiet and humble, Larry Bird would go on to become one of the greatest basketball players of all-time. Larry Bird was born in West Baden Springs, Indiana, but famously grew up in the nearby small town of French Lick. He was drafted 6th overall in the 1978 NBA draft by the Boston Celtics. He didn’t sign with them right away, opting instead to finish out his college career at Indiana State. He would begin his professional career in the 1979-80 season and finish it in the 1991-92 season, giving him a 13 year career as a player. Over the course of his career he would…

My First Complete Pokemon Card Collection

I got into Pokemon cards when my kids became interested in them. When they started buying them and requesting them as birthday gifts I figured I too should have a deck so that I could play with them. What started as a way to stay involved with my kids turned into an interest of my own. I found myself purchasing booster packs and starter decks in an effort to get stronger and more useful cards. It eventually turned into a collecting hobby for me. I now have a complete set, called Steam Siege, numbering a total of 116 cards. This is the first complete set of anything I have ever…
