Devaluing Life

Gone are the days of abortion advocates claiming that what is being destroyed by an abortion is just a “clump of cells.” There can be no more arguing about the “viability” of an unborn baby’s life. Democrats just voted against legislation that would have protected infants born alive after an attempted abortion. A baby, living, breathing outside the womb can now be the victim of an abortion.

“Safe, legal, and rare” used to be the mantra of the pro-abortion movement. If they ever did truly want it that way, it is evident they no longer do. Planned Parenthood is the largest abortion provider in America, they kill over 300,000 babies a year, they are getting rich doing it. They call their clinics “health centers”, yet they are not held to the same safety or sanitation standards as other outpatient surgical facilities. In fact, a dental office is held to higher standards than a Planned Parenthood abortion clinic. Not only that, but they also fight against regulations designed to hold them to higher standards of care, safety, and sanitation. Planned Parenthood has donated tens of millions of dollars to political campaigns of Democrats in order to secure their votes in the event of such regulations being presented. “Safe” certainly doesn’t seem to be a concern any longer.

The CDC reported that in 2015 (the last year they bothered recording this information), 638,169 legal abortions took place. According to the Guttmacher Institute, just 12% of women claim health issues as their reason for getting an abortion. Fewer than 1.5% of all abortions are for reasons of rape and incest. That means 552,921 abortions that year were due to non-medical, non-rape, and non-incest related reasons. I would hazard to guess that doesn’t fit most people’s definition of rare.

Not only is abortion not safe or rare, but it has now being applied to infants outside the womb. The idea that a doctor and mother are allowed to leave a baby born alive after an attempted abortion to die of starvation and exposure is simply evil. It should evoke powerful feelings of disgust and shame in all who learn of it, that our society is capable of such atrocity. It should also bring all who value life to their feet in a united march against those who promote the evil that is abortion.

For those of you who scoff at what I say, I have some questions. If human life had significant meaning in our culture, would 552,921 women be getting an abortion when they have no medical or traumatic reason to do so? Would “doctors” be ripping unborn babies limb-from-limb while they squirm and wiggle away from the forceps in an effort to preserve their own life? Would so many politicians vote against legislation designed to protect babies outside the womb?
