Joe Biden Gaffes

Former Vice President Joe Biden is the frontrunner to be the Democratic presidential candidate selected to square off against President Trump. Biden was a senator for Delaware from 1973-2009 and Vice President from 2009-2017, he is currently 77 years old. He is prone to making up stories, forgetting what he was saying, being overly aggressive when confronted with tough questions, and saying things that don’t quite make sense. Since so many of his “gaffes” are somewhat amusing, I have decided to compile a list of my favorites…enjoy!

August 8th, 2019 – At the Iowa State Fair, he attempted to get the crowd pumped up by emphatically stating, “We choose unity over division, science over fiction, we choose truth over facts!”

August 8th, 2019 – At a town hall in Des Moines, Iowa, which was hosted by the Asian and Latino Coalition, Biden claimed, “Poor kids are just as bright and just as talented as white kids.”

September 12th, 2019 – At a Democratic Primary debate, Biden said that, “Nobody should be in jail for a non-violent crime.”

September 17th, 2019 – At the Worker’s Presidential Summit in Philadelphia, he stated, “You get a tax break for a race horse. Why in God’s name couldn’t we provide an $8,000 tax credit for everybody who has childcare costs?” He went on, “It would put 720 million women back in the workforce. It would increase the GDP—to sound like a wonk here—by about eight-tenths of one percent. It would grow the economy.” Note: The population of America is about 330 million. There aren’t even 200 million women living in America, let alone 720 million.

October, 2019 – In a Democrat debate, Biden contradicted himself within seconds, saying, “We have to start rewarding work, not just wealth. I would eliminate the capital gains tax. I would— I would raise the capital gains tax to the highest rate of 39.5 percent, I would double it.” Then, just minutes after that, he said, “Why in God’s name should someone who’s clipping coupons in the stock market… pay a lower tax rate than someone who is a school teacher and a firefighter.”

February 24th, 2020 – At the South Carolina Democratic Party’s “First in the South Dinner,” he seemed to be quite mixed up, saying, My name is Joe Biden. I’m a Democratic candidate for the United States Senate. Look me over, if you like what you see, help out. If not, vote for the other Biden.” Note: Joe Biden is running for president, not for senate, and there is no other Biden in the race.

February 25th, 2020 – At a Democrat debate Joe Biden said, “150 million people have been killed since 2007 when Bernie voted to exempt the gun manufacturers from liability, more than all the wars, including Vietnam from that point on.” Note: America has a population of roughly 330 million people. If 150 million Americans died during a 13 year period, we would certainly have noticed.

March 2nd, 2020 – While speaking at a rally in Houston, Texas, Biden said, “Look, tomorrow is stupor Thurs…Tuesday, and I wanna thank you all.” Later at that same rally he attempted to quote the Declaration of Independence, “We hold these truths to be self-evident, all men and women created by…go…you know, you know the thing!”

In my estimation, the more a person speaks publicly the more mistakes, or gaffes, they will make. That being said, it seems to me that Joe Biden makes far more mistakes than the typical person. This could be due to his advanced age, intense campaign schedule, or a poor memory. Although, throughout his entire career he has been caught in numerous lies. He once lied about his grades in college, the number of degrees he earned, and about being arrested when he tried to visit Nelson Mandela in prison. Biden has also reacted to tough questions by challenging one asker to a pushup contest, threatening to slap another, and calling yet another one fat and threatening to take the issue outside. These all occurred within the last six months. So, where as I am willing to cut people slack when they speak publicly so frequently, I have become less forgiving of Joe Biden’s continuous gaffes. This man wants the keys to our country, but is he stable enough to be trusted with them?
