QotW: What Do You Want Your Home To Feel Like?

I have known a number of people around my age that have relatively blank walls, very few pictures out, sparse décor, and virtually everything is painted white or a variation thereof. Then when I enter the house of someone old enough to be my parent I largely find the opposite. There will be pictures of family hanging on the walls and perched on shelves along with knick-knacks and decorations. I also typically see more natural wood and earthy colors. Personally, I like my house to feel warm and welcoming, like an old English cottage. I leave natural wood exposed, try to choose warm colors for the walls, hang pictures of family, and put out décor that reflects who we are and what we value. There are many more things I want to do with my home to make it even more the way I want it, but they are a ways down the road at this point. However, thinking on what I desire my home to communicate got me thinking about what other people want their home to say about them. Perhaps I have overthought this? Do most people not actively think like this about their home? Is this a generational or age related thing? These are all things to consider when answering this weeks, Question of the Week.

I want my home to feel welcoming, semi clean (I have dogs so there is always hair), and “homey”. I don’t want people to feel like they can’t relax because everything is spotless or like a home from a magazine shoot.

    • A home that is relaxed, yet still well-maintained, gives off a welcoming aura as soon as one walks through the door. 🙂
